Most people know Telsa as the company upending the car industry with their all electric cars with futuristic cockpits. Elon Musk, the founder, and CEO of Tesla, also started another company, Solar City. Recently he has combined his two companies. On the surface, it may not seem as if there is much overlap between electric cars and solar panels – but they share one major reliance – batteries. Both systems require large stable batteries to work – and Telsa has re-engineered the battery it developed for their car – to work for your home.

Solar technology has significantly matured in the past ten years. It has broken through the efficiency threshold to become an economical investment on most projects – except for the batteries. Now that is changing with Telsa’s home power banks.

But that is not exactly what we are here to talk about today. To go along with these pretty cool batteries is Telsa’s new solar roof shingles. These are a revolutionary product. Rather than putting solar panels on your roof – these solar panels ARE your roof. They come in various styles, some of which are quite beautiful. They do no look like solar panels and can be worked into the architecture rather than pasted on top of it. They are stronger than traditional roofs and should last longer.
